L. Katherine (Saum) Stahlman, 93, of Strasburg, VA, formerly of Indiana, PA, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.A daughter of Rev. Edgar Roy and Martha D. (Harris) Saum, she was born June 24, 1918 in Morocco, IN.Mrs. Stahlman received a BS in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University in 1940, a BS in Home Economics from Indiana University of PA in 1958 and her MS in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in 1969. At the May 1999 graduation ceremony of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, she was honored as the longest standing student of the Extension Studies Department completing the curriculum, which she began with her first course in 1943.She taught in the Blairsville School District from 1956-1959. She was a clinical dietician at Torrance State Hospital from 1959-1960 and a dietician at Indiana Hospital from 1960-1968. After serving in 1968-1969 as the school lunch director for the Indiana Area School District, she taught nutrition courses at Indiana University of PA from 1969 until her retirement in 1978.Surviving are her two sons and two daughters, Dr. Roy (Bonnie) Stahlman of Bryn Mawr; Glenn (Betsy) Stahlman of Quincy, IL; Lois (Peter) Ancona of Alexandria, VA and Carol (Samuel) Murphy of Toms Brook, VA; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H. Gerald Stahlman on March 3, 1994 whom she married March 17, 1940 and her sister, Rachel Pandolph.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Valley Bible Church, 578 Double Church Road, Stevens City, VA.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Daryl Jeffers officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.In lieu of flower, contributions may be made to a scholarship fund at Calvary Baptist Academy, 11394 Route 286 Highway East, Clymer, PA 15728 or to the missions at Calvary Baptist Church.
