Edward Nakles, 95, of Altoona, PA formerly of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Altoona Hospital, Altoona, PA.A son of Michael S. and Mary (Thomas) Nakles, he was born August 19, 1916 in New Derry, PA.Mr. Nakles was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Promise Keepers.He was a veteran of World Ward II, having served in the Army.Mr. Nakles was co-owner of Nakles Brothers, Blairsville, for many years. Surviving are four children, a daughter, Shirley Bryner and her husband, Barry of Altoona; three sons, John Michael Nakles of Ludowici, GA; Robert Nakles and his wife, Jane of Sterling, VA; Don Nakles and his wife, Sally of Avon Lake, OH; nine grandchildren, Maribeth Wesesky and her husband, Mark; Matthew Bryner and his wife, Beth; Gary Nakles; Michael Nakles; Jessica Blanchard and her husband, Seth; Rebecca Nakles; Katharine Nakles; Margaret Nakles and Nathaniel Nakles; two great grandchildren, Luke Wesesky and Clara Alice Blanchard and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Alice (Joseph) Nakles on May 12, 2009; three brothers, Samuel, Thomas and Joffre Nakles and two sisters, Julia Thomas and Cecelia Stump.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, with Rev. John McMannus officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
