Glenna Jean (Ash) Peterson, 62, of Vintondale, PA passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Canterbury Place Hospice, Pittsburgh, PA.A daughter of William O. and Mabel L. (Albright) Ash, she was born January 19, 1950 in Luciusboro, PA.She was a union official for AFSCME, a civil activist and a lover of the outdoors.She was a psychiatric nurse at Torrance State Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 2008.Surviving are a son Donald E. Muir of Coal Twp.; a daughter, Stacy L. Freeman (fianc, Charles Pistella) of Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter, Sherri L. McClure of Blairsville; two grandchildren, Olandis Freeman and Brooke Pistella; four sisters, Alice Zemba (John) of Black Lick; Rita Zimmerman (Dane) of Harrisburg; Sally DeArmitt (Rodney) of Brush Valley and Susan Ash-Miller (Rick) of Blairsville; two brothers, Tom Ash (Staci) of Brush Valley and Timothy Ash (Judy) of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald Zimmerman in 2011; a niece, Jennifer Miller in 2011; a brother, William Ash in 2004 and a great niece, Olivia Miller in 1996.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut Street, Blairsville, PA.Services and interment are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
