Donald B. Shirley, Sr., 80, of Homer City, PA (Brush Valley Twp.) passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA. The son of John and Nevada P. (Marsh) Shirley, he was born October 14, 1933 in Dilltown, PA. Mr. Shirley was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army and was the owner of Don's Transmission Service for 45 years. He was a member of the Homer City American Legion Post #493 and Club Savoy of Homer City. He was an avid bowler, huge fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and loved his cats, Yeller, Fluffy and Little Girl. Surviving are four children, Paul McClead (Diane) of Carlisle; Valerie D. Shaffer (Gary) of Derry; Donald B. Shirley, Jr. of Clymer and Barry L Shirley (partner, Mitch Rainey) of Derry; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; four sisters, Velma Muir of Clymer; Letty Miller (Jim) of Heshbon; Twila Mae Dunmire (Leonard) of Blairsville and Janet Richie (Bill) of Grove City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Stanley, Ken, Robert, Dean, Art, Ted and Leonard and a sister, Ruth Howe. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Armagh Cemetery, East Wheatfield Twp., PA.
