William Dean Heckathorn, Sr., 77, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family at his home Friday, August 23, 2013. The son of Albert and Alma (Carney) Heckathorn, he was born April 10, 1936 in Beaver Falls, PA.Mr. Heackthorn was a member of No Walls Ministries, New Alexandria.He worked as an electrician for 42 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #5, Pittsburgh.He enjoyed hunting and fishing.Surviving are his wife, Edith Mae (Friend) Heckathorn whom he married September 7, 1957; two sons, William D. Heckathorn, Jr. (Beverly) of Blairsville and John L. Heckathorn (Cindy) of Blairsville; a daughter, Kimberly Durika (David) of Blairsville; seven grandchildren, Joshua Heckathorn, Deanna Durika, Ashley Heckathorn, John Heckathorn Jr., Gabrielle Heckathorn, Leanna Durika and Faith Heckathorn; four great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy, Willard and Paul and three sisters, Margaret Gorrell, Alberta Dettinger and Hazel Heckathorn.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Charlie Brownawell officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.A special thank you to the VNA Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Indiana County for their care.
