Dorothy Irene (Compton) Gardner, 90, of Greensburg, PA formerly of Blairsville, PA passed away on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Kelly's Personal Care Home, Greensburg, PA.The daughter of Jackson A. and Nannie B. (Mabon) Compton, she was born January 27, 1923 in Clarksburg, PA.Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Independent Baptist Church, Blairsville, Telephone Pioneers of America Bell and the Women Marine Association.She was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II and worked 30 years for Bell Telephone of PA, retiring in 1975.Surviving are two sons, David L. Gardner (Kim) of Freeport and Gregory T. Gardner (Brandy) of Martinsburg, WV; a daughter, Donna Nguyen (Tom) of Wexford; six grandchildren, Chris Gardner (Larissa), Stephanie Gardner, Samantha Gardner, Oliver Nguyen, Katie Nguyen and Spencer Nguyen.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David M. Gardner in 1998; three brothers, Blaine, Carl and Wilbur Compton and three sisters, Nola Linger, Goldie Lyons and Leila White.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday with David Vucish, Pastor of the Independent Baptist Church officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
