Raymond E. "Pete" Barnhart, 90, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Keeper of the Flame, Blairsville, PA.The son of Harry H. and Mildred (Redding) Barnhart, he was born June 23, 1922 in Livermore, PA.Mr. Barnhart was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, where he was a ruling elder and member of the Men's Fellowship Class, former member of the Blairsville Horsemen's Association, former member and past worthy master of Blairsville Grange #2012 and was a director on the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board when the high school was built in 1965.Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed by Westinghouse Specialty Metals, Blairsville, for 28 years.He enjoyed playing cards with his good friends, gardening, working in his shop and spending his winters in DeLand, FL from 1983-2004.Surviving are his wife, Kathryn E. (Jacob) Barnhart whom he married April 17, 1946; two children; a son, Gary R. Barnhart (Carol) of Blairsville and a daughter, Barbara K. Brown (Terry) of Blairsville; two grandchildren, Shelly Davis (Anderson) and Jill Richards (Gregg); four great grandchildren, Reid Davis, Jake Richards, Connor Davis and Delaney Richards; three brothers, Lyle Barnhart (Ellen) of Blairsville; Glenn Barnhart of Belle Vernon and Paul Barnhart (Arlene) of Derry; three sisters, Ruth Trimble of Blairsville; Gladys Miller (Bert) of Frankfort, IN and Evelyn Miller (Orin) of Latrobe; two sisters-in-law, Twila Barnhart of Pittsburgh and Sue Barnhart of Derry and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Julie Brown in 1997; four brothers, Edward, Pershing, George and Dale and a sister, Marie Strong.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, PA with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe and Rev. Dr. Roger D. Petersen co-officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the United Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.
