Anna Barbara (Matviya) Groft, 83, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.A daughter of Andy and Mary (Kochis) Matviya, she was born October 5, 1926 in Bairdstown, PA.Mrs. Groft lived her entire life in the Blairsville area. She was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville.She graduated from Derry Twp. High School in 1944 and worked eight years for G.C. Murphy Co., Blairsville.She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her whole life.Surviving are her husband of 57 years, William D. Groft whom she married October 4, 1952; two sons, William E. Groft (Lisa) of Mt. Pleasant and Robert L. Groft of New Alexandria; a daughter, Teresa A. Cunkelman (David) of Murrysville; four grandchildren, Kara Marie Groft (Richard Barnhart), Lauren Susanna Cunkelman, William E. Groft Jr. and Laura E. Groft; a great-grandson, Kaden L. Barnhart and a brother, Michael Matviya of Port St. Lucie, FL.She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters, Barbara and Mary; three brothers, Andrew, John and Nicholas "Mickey" Matviya and a sister, Mary Yuzawich.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 o 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, where a Wake service will be held at 8:30 P.M. Friday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant.Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Francis DeFabo, Dr. James Adisey and to case manager, Peggy.
