Mike Maryai, Jr., 104, of Homer City, PA (Young Twp.) passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Mike Maryai, Sr. and Barbara (Kardos) Maryai, he was born October 5, 1905 in Wishaw, PA.Mr. Maryai lived his entire life in Young Township and was a US Army veteran. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for R & P Coal Company for 40 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of American #3548 for over 80 years. Surviving are two sons. Kenneth M. Maryai and his wife, Janet of Homer City and Donald L. Maryai and his wife, Linda of Homer City; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Maryai Jr., Kimberly Bendis, Michael Maryai, Mindy Smith, Deborah Bier, Ronald Machak, Terri Cochran and Christine Heltzel; 12 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beatrice V. Blankenship Maryai in 1975; daughter, Janet E. Machak; son, Michael Maryai and a brother, Andrew Maryai and two sisters, Betty Maryai and Mary Carter.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.Interment will be in Elders Ridge Cemetery, Young Twp., PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion #0407.
