Lawrence McFarland Rhea, Jr., 84, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.The son of Lawrence M. Rhea, Sr. and Almeda C. (Lindey) Rhea, he was born November 27, 1924 in New Alexandria, PA.Mr. Rhea was a member of the LOOM and VFW Post #5821, Blairsville.He enjoyed square dancing and bowling.He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and worked 16 years as a machinist for Cessna Aircraft Co., retiring in 1982.Surviving are his daughter, Laura Sue Charles and her husband, Shawn of Kansas City, Missouri; a grandson, Kyle James; two sisters, Vera Kelly and her husband, Floyd of Homer City and Florence Clawson of Blairsville and his favorite niece and caregiver, Kathleen Almeda Rhea of Indiana.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Dudley and Frank Rhea; a sister, Mary Crowe and a half-sister, Pauline Sarver.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Stephen C. Bond officiating.Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Lewisville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
