Sally B. (Bennett) McGowan, 70, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at her home.The daughter of Samuel B. Bennett Jr. and Lessie D. (Powell) Bennett, she was born April 24, 1939 in Uniontown, PA.Mrs. McGowan was very active in her church and community.She was a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, Brenizer, and was head of the Usher Board of the church.She was in charge of the food service program for the Blairsville Recreation Board for the last few years.Mrs. McGowan graduated from Johnstown High School in 1957 and had worked as the food service supervisor for Torrance State Hospital, retiring in 1993.Surviving are her husband of 50 years, David D. McGowan Sr. to whom she married on July 11, 1959; two sons, Dana McGowan of Orlando, FL and Dewayne McGowan and wife, Erica of Waldorf, MD and a daughter, Dawn Charles and husband, James of San Diego, CA and three grandchildren, Ebonie, Desiree and Isaiah.She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David McGowan Jr. on March 9, 1986 and a brother, Lloyd Bennett. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, Brenizer, PA with Elder Albert Stinson officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA
