Frederick Henry Steeves, 83, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at St. Andrew's Village, Indiana, PA.The son of Robert A. and Katie Belle (Bracken) Steeves, he was born March 6, 1926 in Nanty Glo, PA.Mr. Steeves retired in 1979 from Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown and worked the last 13 years with Bud and Ruth Davis.He loved being around the children of the family and enjoyed gardening and working outside with the animals.He was a US Army veteran, having served in World War II. Surviving are four sisters, Catherine Hill of Latrobe; Rosella Squibbs of Derry; Viola Trinder and husband, Clarence of Charleroi and Sylvia Hill and husband, Carl of Black Lick; three brothers, Eddie Steeves of Black Lick; Richard Steeves of Blairsville and William Steeves of Derry and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and David and a sister, Ethel Steeves.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Hoch officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
