David L. Joyce, Sr., 76, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Richard P. and Edith (Rhoads) Joyce, he was born November 13, 1932 in Smithton, PA.Mr. Joyce was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral site.He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1952 and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.He was the founder of Joyce Plumbing and Heating, Blairsville.Mr. Joyce retired in 1983 from Bethlehem Steel Company, Johnstown, where he worked as a pipefitter for 32 years.Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Helen (Hirko) Joyce to whom he married November 22, 1956; two sons, David L. Joyce, Jr. and wife, Marlene of Blairsville and John J. Joyce and wife, Kimberly of Blairsville a daughter, Annette M. Weed and husband, Charles Lee of Friendswood, TX; four grandchildren, Kristen and Alissa Joyce and Leann and Leslie Weed; two brothers, James J. Joyce and wife, Irene of Josephine and Theodore J. Joyce of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Sister M. Scholastica of Greensburg and Frances Conforti of Greentree, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dorothy Joyce in 1964; two brothers, Rev. Fr. Brice Joyce and Richard Joyce and a sister, Patricia Joyce.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.A Prayer service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home followed a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coralsite, with Fr. Terry Hercik as celebrant.Interment will follow in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701 or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 490 E.
