Walter Eugene Short, 84, of Gray Station, PA passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009 at his home.The son of Norman and Florence (Kunkle) Short, he was born July 4, 1925 in Derry Twp., PA.Mr. Short lived most of his life in the Gray Station area and enjoyed fishing and repairing lawn mowers for people.He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II.He retired in 1985 from Sterling Box Company, Jeannette, PA.Surviving are three sons, Paul J. Short of Gray Station; Walter H. Short of Gray Station and Garry L. Short of West Lebanon; two daughters, Dolores J. Cowan of Brenizer and Patricia A. Davis and husband, Melvin of Derry; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a brother, Norman Short and wife, Jean of Derry.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine D. (DiPerna) Short on June 18, 2008; a brother, George Short and a sister, Grace Quick.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. James R. Henigin officiating.Interment will be in Germany Lutheran Cemetery, West Wheatfield Twp., PA.Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
