Michael Charles MetilAge 15, of Blairsville, PA, (Westmoreland Co.) on June 27, 2009 passed away peacefully at home. Survived by parents Michael G. Metil and Cay S. Welch, born January 20, 1994 in Hershey, PA. Also survived by paternal grandmother, Dolores Metil of Latrobe, PA, paternal great grandmother, Ines Bontempelli of Latrobe, PA, aunts and uncles, Mark (Melissa) Metil of New Florence, PA, Michael (Margaret) Welch of Jersey Shore, PA, Cathryn (Scott) Bobst of Jersey Shore, PA, Maria (Eric) Craig of Berlin, PA. Survived by cousins, Jacob, Erica and Mark Craig, Corrie Rodamel, Ben Welch, Pressley Metil, Lynaugh and Sarah Bobst. Preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Charlotte Welch and paternal grandfather, Michael Metil. Michael Charles was the inspiration and creator of many wonderful enterprises. Born with a rare disorder he lived valuably with multiple handicaps and special needs. His empowerment lead to the inception of International Organization of Glutaric Acidemia. IOGA, a non-profit organization, assists those affected by neurological damages, promoting expansion of state newborn screenings and research for brain repair. Michael was the origin for the Michael Charles Winery located in Westmoreland County for seven years donating the profits to underwrite medical conferences for families research and clinics, furthering the advancement for brain repair and treatment modalities. His foundation works were resource tools of advocacy linking families together with glutaric acidemia. Michael Charles' efforts lead to amending of newborn screening testing of babies for treatable rare disorders. He traveled extensively in the 15 years he lived. He traveled to California and multiple states and his passport took him to Europe. Whether for enjoyment or therapies his quiet presence was a powerful reminder we all must be included.
