James R. Platt Sr., 66, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his home.The son of William and Marcella (Snyder) Platt, he was born December 12, 1942 in Blacklick Twp., PA.Mr. Platt was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville.He lived his entire life in Blacklick Twp. and loved hunting and farming.He worked for Chambers Development Co., Monroeville, as a heavy equipment operator.Surviving are his wife, Knoxine J. (Long) Platt whom he married July 4, 1993; four sons, James Robert Platt of Blairsville; Michael C. Platt and wife, Nancy of Blairsville; David R. Platt of Latrobe; James Richard Platt Jr. of Latrobe; two daughters, Jessica Gosnell and husband, Harry of Pittsburgh and Samantha McCleary and husband, Ernest of Blairsville; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother, Edward C. Platt and wife, Marjorie of Blairsville and a sister, Adelaide McConnell of Latrobe and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Ralph and John Platt and a sister Mary Fritz.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. John McMannus officiating.Interment will be private.
