Donald Libengood, 83, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at his home.The son of Lester H. and Sadie (Critchfield) Libengood, he was born May 14, 1925 in Strangford, PA.Mr. Libengood lived most of his life in the Blairsville area and was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA.He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during WW II and worked 50 years for Local #66 as an operating engineer, retiring in 1988.He was jack of all trades and loved working on tractors and equipment.His family was the most important part of his life.Surviving is his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Helen (Sloan) Libengood, whom he married on July 1, 1950; a son, James Libengood and wife, Diana of Blairsville; four daughters, Kathleen Steffey and husband, Don; Donna Brodrick and husband, Lawrence; Shirley Gill and husband, Walter, all of Blairsville and Barbara Henry and husband, Randall of Murrysville; 11 grandchildren, James Steffey and wife, Kim; Justin Steffey and wife, Bobbi Jo; Rebecca Shank and husband, Richard; Mark Brodrick; Kristie Jennings and husband, Kevin; David Gill; Andrea Gill; Keith Libengood; Kelly Libengood; Nathan Henry and Amanda Henry; four great grandchildren, Jessica and Emilee Steffey, Addison Jennings and Anna Shank; five sisters and a brother, Mildred Ehman of Blairsville; Viola Kelly of North Ridgeville, OH; Gerald Libengood of Mt. Pleasant; Bea Rinaldi of Jeannette; Goldie Haraseviat of Coraopolis and Betty Libengood of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; a brother, Wilbur Libengood and a sister, Freida Libengood.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home with Fr. Chester J. Raimer officiating.Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
