Howard Daniel Ewing, 89, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009 at his home.The son of Roy and Alice (Howard) Ewing, he was born March 24, 1919 in Conemaugh Twp., PA.Mr. Ewing was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he was a ruling elder and trustee. He was secretary of the Ebenezer Cemetery board, member of Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM, Blairsville; Blairsville Grange #2012, Pamona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange.He worked for over 50 years on his parent's farm.Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary A. (McLaughlin) Ewing, whom he married on October 23, 1947; a daughter, Susan Leonard and husband, Harry J. of Blairsville; two grandsons, Daniel Leonard of Homer City and James Leonard of Latrobe; twin brother, Harry E. Ewing and a sister, Dorothy Minarcik, both of Blairsville.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wayne H. Ewing on March 4, 2000 and a sister, Mabel Fleming Wilson.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Susan Porch Lantz officiating.Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Lewisville.Masonic services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 P.M.
