George Chaek, 85, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.The son of Cahill and Zachia Chaek, he was born April 7, 1923 in Castro, Brazil.He was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville and was a veteran of the Brazilian Army.George moved to Blairsville in 1954 and opened George's Bar and Grill. At the age of 40 he opened George's Beauty Salon and worked for 35 years as a beautician, retiring in 1998.George enjoyed people and being around the customers of Chaek's Window Ice Cream Stand for the past 30 years.Surviving are a son, David E. Chaek and wife, Carol of Blairsville; a grandson, David G. Chaek of Blairsville; a sister-in-law, Barbara Nakles of Latrobe and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Brazil.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Madeline (Nakles) Chaek in 1984 and eight brothers and sisters.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Beverly J. Banyay officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.
