Robert Ralph Berkey, 48, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA.The son of Robert Richard and Nancy J. (Rhoades) Berkey, he was born May 29, 1960 in Johnstown, PA.Mr. Berkey was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was also attending the First Baptist Church, Blairsville.He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1978. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and from Robert Morris University in 2004 with a master's degree in educational leadership.Mr. Berkey taught elementary education for the past 10 years in the Greensburg-Salem School District. He loved his teaching career and enjoyed seeing the Pittsburgh Pirates play.Surviving are his wife, Marsha K. (Conrad) Berkey whom he married on March 29, 1980; three daughters, Jessica Ruddock and husband, Gregory of Clarksburg; Naomi Berkey of Blairsville and Sarah Berkey of Waldorf, MD; four grandchildren, Araina Berkey, Aubrey, Andrew and Austin Ruddock; and two sisters, Georgia D'Angelo of Johnstown and Ruth Ann Nicholson of Derry.He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Deborah in 1990.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, with Rev. John McMannus and Rev. Paul L. Carter co-officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
