Daniel Leonard Falcone, Sr., 86, of Blairsville, PA (Strangford) passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA.The son of William and Annabelle (DeFleice) Falcone, he was born March 16, 1922 in Dixonville, PA.Dan was one of the few remaining WW II Army veterans. He retired, after 27 years from Fisher Scientific, Indiana.Dan was an avid Blairsville High School sports fan and was a pioneer in the start up of the Blairsville Elementary Children's basketball program in the early 70's. He also coached the Blairsville Senior Legion baseball team for many years.Dan enjoyed having coffee with friends at local Blairsville establishments over the years but his true loves will forever be his children, grandchildren and especially his loving wife of 40 years, Helen.Surviving are his wife, Helen F. (Smith) Jones Falcone; children, Diane Olson of Kittanning; Daniel Falcone Jr. and wife, Judy of Murrysville; Gary Falcone and wife, Tina of Blairsville; Kimberly Falcone Alamo and husband, Max of Blairsville and Carol Kalyan of Blairsville; eight grandchildren, Marc Olson of Nevada; Sherry Buonopane of Harrisburg; Nicholas and Alissa Falcone of Murrysville; Brandon and Marissa Falcone of Blairsville and Hanna and Lauren Alamo of Blairsville; four great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Tom Falcone Sr.; Sophie "Marie" Billingslee; Ernie Falcone; Helen Bucci; Evelyn Dawson and Betty Hoffman and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, George Kalyan and brothers, Patrick, Russ, James and Robert Falcone. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Jason L.
