Robert C. "Bob" George, Sr., 83, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at his home.The son of Heber and Gertrude (Clawson) George, he was born April 10, 1925 in Coral, PA.Mr. George was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, where he was a ruling elder. He was also a member of the Derry American Legion Post #324, Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM, Blairsville, Coudersport Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Westmoreland Forest #77, Jaffa Temple, Jaffa Lil' Vette Unit, Jaffa Legion of Honor, Royal Order of Jester #70, Indiana County Shrine Club, Blairsville BPOE #406, AARP and the Historical Society of the Blairsville Area. He donated 56 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II.Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by Blairsville Westinghouse for 30 years.Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bessie (Orr) George whom he married on April 10, 1948; a son, Robert C. "Bob" George, Jr. and wife, Sandra; two daughters, Lois Spence and husband, Robert and Linda D. George and friend, Paul Yasurek,all of Blairsville; four granddaughters; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Heber George of West Lebanon.He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Robert C. George III.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in United Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion #0407.Masonic services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday and Elks services will be held at 7:45 P.M. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jaffa Temple Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603-1984.
