Lawrence A. Garris, 47, of McIntyre, PA passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.The son of William W. and Catherine M. (Flowers) Garris, he was born June 24, 1960 in Latrobe, PA.Mr. Garris was a member of the American Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed hunting, loved to race motorcross and was the 2005 District Five Arena Cross champion.He was a peacetime veteran of the US Marines and worked as a die setter for Breeze Industrial Products, Tunnelton, for 14 years.Surviving are his wife, Alice I. (Dressler) Garris whom he married on July 15, 1988; son, Jeffrey A. Garris of McIntyre; stepson, James Duncan and wife, Tina of Strongstown; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Duncan; brother, William Garris and wife, Nanette of Blairsville; two sisters, Joni Gatlin and husband, Daryll of Paragould, Arkansas and Lori Everett of Georgia; half-brother, James Flowers and wife, Julie of Homer City; numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful boxer, Buffy.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Timothy and John.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. Steve Rearick officiating.Interment will be private.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion #0407.
