Frank Joseph Avalli, 89, of Josephine, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Celeste and Carmella (Ponzi) Avalli, he was born April 16, 1918 in Black Lick, PA.Mr. Avalli was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, Parish Council, SS Simon & Jude Cemetery Board, Burrell Twp. Rod and Gun Club, life member of Knight of Columbus #3624, Blairsville, and a life member of the Black Lick Volunteer Fire Company.He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army.He worked for the United States Postal Service as a postmaster in Josephine for 20 years, retiring in 1981.Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth J. (Kosalko) Avalli whom he married on November 11, 1946; a son, Charles J. Avalli and wife, Jennifer of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Cynthia Barbi and husband, Vincent of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Matthew Barbi, Natalie Barbi, C.J. Avalli, Kristine Avalli and Stephanie Avalli.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Avalli and a sister, Edith Cortilesso.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake service will be held on Friday at 8:30 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday in the SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant.Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA
