Raymond C. Coates, 88, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007 in the Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe, PA.The son of Earl E. and Agnes G. (McWilliams) Coates, he was born February 20, 1919 in Erie, PA.Mr. Coates was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, Guideons International, Experimental Aircraft Association and the Promise Keepers.He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corp.He retired in 1987 from Balco, Inc., Blairsville.Surviving are a daughter, Carol Dianne Coates of New Alexandria; a son, James E. Coates of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Geoffrey Coates and Leslie Coates; a brother-in-law, Edward T. Bloom of Avon Lake, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary H. (Bloom) Coates on June 27, 2003; and three brothers, Cortlandt, Craig and John. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 135 E. Burrell St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. John McMannus officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
