Paul Chakot, Sr., 79, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, April 2, 2007 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Peter Chakot, Sr. and Ella (Tatura) Chakot, he was born August 24, 1927 in Palmertown, PA.Mr. Chakot was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, where he was a longtime member of the parish council; also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #1488, Blairsville, and the National Rifle Association.He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1945 and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.Prior to his retirement in 1986, he worked at Torrance State Hospital.Surviving are a son, Peter Chakot, Jr. of Blairsville; a daughter, Paula Goldberg and husband, Eugene of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Paul Chakot, III, Rachel Goldberg and April Ann Chakot; three sisters, Helen Boros of Indiana; Margie Waters of Erie and Anna Ruddick of New York.He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Ann (Calabrese) Chakot in 1975; second wife, Kay (Repine) Chakot in 2000; five brothers, Peter Chakot, John Tarasovich, Michael Chakot, George Tarasovich and Frank Chakot and a sister, Mary Chakot.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, where a Panikihda service will be held at 8:45 P.M. Wednesday.A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, with Rev. Fr. John Mikita officiating.Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
