Clair Louis Piper, 77, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Leroy L. and Fredericka J. Mikesell Piper, he was born July 12, 1929 in Cook Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.Mr. Piper was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville.He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. ArmyPrior to his retirement on May 1, 1993, he was employed as a machinist for Blairsville Machine Products.He enjoyed learning about the Civil War and visiting battlefields.Surviving are three sons, Dennis E. Piper and wife Betsy of Nashville, TN; Clair G. Piper and wife, Loretta of Indiana; Brian M. Piper and wife, Lisa of Homer City; and a daughter, Michele L. Blattenberger and husband, Barry of Black Lick; nine grandchildren, Barry Michael Blattenberger, Stacy L., Daniel C., Brittney M., David A., Chelsey A., Kayla M., Dana M. and Courtnie M. Piper; and a brother, Gilbert Piper of Blairsville.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine Faye Bennett Piper on September 3, 1994; four brothers, Leonard, Garvin, Donald and Linley Piper; and three sisters, Dorothy Gaskill, Thelma McDowell and twin sister, Marie Liebel.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, PA with Rev. E. Earl Anderson officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
