Leonard Charles Liebel, 79, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at his home.The son of John and Eva McDowell Liebel, he was born December 24, 1926 in Blairsville, PA.He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was employed by Torrance State Hospital until his retirement in 1988.Surviving are three stepchildren, Mark R. Wallbaum and wife, Vicky of Blairsville; Linda Reed and husband, Dean of Derry and Janet Dersch and husband, Lloyd of Springboro; 14 step-grandchildren, Amanda Matteo, Kerry Smith, Kimberly Reed, Melanie Bures, Bradleigh Dersch, Melissa Reed, Aharon Dersch, Kasey Reed, Chelsea Dersch, Kelsey Reed, Korey Reed, Hayleigh Dersch, Micaela Reed and Adalyn Reed; three step-great grandchildren, Hope Reed, Kyle Smith and Kaelyn Smith; four sisters, Helen Mumau of Latrobe; Rosemary "Posey" David of Latrobe; Anna Kozielec of Bradenville and Nancy O'Hara of Blairsville.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie Piper Wallbaum Liebel on June 11, 2006; five brothers, Joseph, Edward, William, Raymond and Thomas Liebel and a sister, Margaret Kinnan and two infant sisters.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, PA with Rev. Beverly J. Banyay officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
