Robert John Thompson, Sr., 60, of Blairsville, PA (Burrell Twp.) passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006 at his home.A son of John G. and Ethel L. Swasy Thompson, he was born December 28, 1945 in Indiana County.Mr. Thompson graduated from Blairsville High School in 1964 and was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Black Lick Sportsmen's Club, Blairsville F.O.E. #1488 and the Derry Rod & Gun Club.He worked 17 years for Helen Mine and retired in 2005 from Dlubak Co., Blairsville.Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Carol A. Sturgeon Thompson; a son, Robert J. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Brandi of Blairsville and two grandchildren, Robert J. III and Alexander J. Thompson.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Charlotte Elizabeth Thompson on December 7, 2005.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Jason L. McQueen officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Veteran services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
