James Anthony Farrell, 87, of Blairsville, PA (Burrell Twp.) passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of William H. and Grace E. Brower Farrell, he was born September 5, 1918 in Pelham, NY.Mr. Farrell was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA where he sang in the men's choir; Knights of Columbus Council #3624, VFW Post #5821; St. Vincent Oblates and was a former scout master with the boy scouts. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.He was a fighter pilot during WW II with the Flying Tigers serving in the 14th Air Force under General Clair Chenault.He worked for 34 years at Westinghouse Specialty Metals, Blairsville, retiring in 1981, as a lab technician.Surviving are his wife, Florence Ann Kayser Farrell whom he married December 2, 1944; four children, Gerald W. Farrell and wife, Linda of Woodbury, NJ; Ann U. Frantz and husband, James of Deep Creek, MD; Mary M. Bateman of Chanhassen, MN and Grace T. Rohrer and husband, Larry of Edgewood, PA; four grandchildren, Andrew L. Farrell; Alexander J. Farrell; Theresa Downey and Frederick Rohrer and a brother, Robert P. Farrell of Cleveland, OH.He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, James A. and Nicholas J. Farrell; a granddaughter, Jennifer Frantz; two brothers, William H. and Richard P. Farrell and two sisters, Marian Farrell and Eleanor Corrigan.At the request of Mr. Farrell there will be no visitation.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday in SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant.
