Robert L. Johns, 80, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Monday, October 24, 2005 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.A son of Robert A. and Myrtle Dyre Johns, he was born October 16, 1925 in Irwin, PA.Mr. Johns was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, a 52 year member of Shidle Lodge #601 F&AM, Irwin, PA and was a private pilot and member of the Indiana County Flying Club. He graduated from East McKeesport High School in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Marine Corps as a radar operator for M.A.W.S. 8. Mr. Johns began working in 1947 at Westinghouse, East McKeesport, PA and transferred to Westinghouse, Blairsville, PA in 1955. He retired in 1987 as a maintenance supervisor.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Alida Mae Jarrett Johns whom he married February 12, 1948; daughter, Nancy Mae Johns Poland of Pittsburgh, PA; son, Robert M. Johns and wife, Christine of Blairsville, PA; two grandchildren, Michael and Jacquelyn Johns, both of Blairsville, PA; three sisters, Dorothy Oates of Levittown, PA; Shirley Mae Shafer of Somerset, PA and Carol Ann Lamacz of Jeannette, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph N. Johns and a sister, Charlotte Mahoney.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Jason L. McQueen officiating.Interment will be in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, N. Huntingdon Twp., PAMilitary services will be accorded at the funeral home by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM will have services in the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M.
