Lundy P. Sferro, 89, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital, Latrobe, PA.The son of Peter and Belanda Deluca Sferro, he was born July 5, 1916 in Lucernemines, PA.Mr. Sferro was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA; Knight of Columbus Council #3624; Blairsville VFW Post #5821; master cement mason and master carpenter belonging to the cement masons Local #526, Pittsburgh, PA.He was a well-known amateur boxer having won a Golden Glove Championship.He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1936 and worked as a cement mason and carpenter for 40 years, retiring in 1979.Mr. Sferro was a US Army veteran of World War II.Surviving are his son, William Sferro and wife, Judie of Gainesville, VA a daughter, Janet Ralph of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Courtney Dauer, William Ralph, Lyndsey Konrad, Allery Ralph, Tucker Sferro, Bradley Ralph and Ashley Sferro; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Baccaro of Buffalo, NY and Margaret Mehallo of Avon Lakes, OH.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Caruso Sferro on May 17, 1982; three brothers, Elmer, Reno and Paul Sferro and four sisters, Mary Sandy, Rose Gasbarro, Dolly George and Norina Sferro.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 P.M. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake Service will be held on Thursday at 8:30 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant.Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
