John Edwin Walther, Jr., 83, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Friday, December 24, 2004 at his home.The son of John E. Walther, Sr. and Annabel Glover Walther, he was born May 2, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA.Mr. Walther was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church and the VFW Post #5821 both of Blairsville.He was a veteran of the US Navy and prior to his retirement, he was employed by Torrance State Hospital Surviving are his wife, Rita G. Silvis Walther whom he married August 8, 1969; a daughter, Lisa Dianne Benham and her husband, Nolan of Orlando, Florida; two stepsons, William David Mongelli of Rhode Island and Gary James Mongelli of Littleton, Colorado; a stepdaughter, Tamsen Darlene Hammen of Baltimore, Maryland; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, James Walther and William Walther, both of Pittsburgh, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lillian Tuttle.The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake service will be held on Monday at 8:30 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. in the SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant. Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
