Joseph L. "Shorty" Durika, 76, of RD#3, Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) died on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 in the Latrobe Area Hospital, Latrobe, PA.The son of Stefan J. and Veronica Kremenik Durika, he was born February 17, 1928 in Blairsville, PA.Mr. Durika was a farmer his entire life and was involved with the Derry Twp. Agriculture Fair for many years.Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Marshall Durika whom he married April 20, 1954; a son, David J. Durika and his wife, Kimberly of RD#3, Blairsville, PA and two daughters, Carol A. Durika and Nancy J. Durika both of Washington D.C. and two granddaughters, Deanna Durika and Leanna Durika.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Steve Durika.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 P.M. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Ronald G. Durika officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
