Lessie D. Powell Bennett, 83, of Blairsville, PA formerly of Johnstown, PA died on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Scenery Hill Manor, Indiana, PA.A daughter of Dorsey and Sallie Powell, she was born September 29, 1920 in Petersburg, VA.Mrs. Bennett lived most of her life in Johnstown, PA before moving to Blairsville three years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1989, she was employed by Best Form Garment Co., Johnstown, PA for 45 years.Surviving are a daughter, Sally McGowan and her husband, David of Blairsville, PA; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a sister, Martha Brokenbaugh of Pittsburgh, PA.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Bennett Jr. in 1990; a son, Lloyd A. Bennett; a grandson, David McGowan Jr.; a great granddaughter, Olivia McGowan; a brother, Robert Taylor and a sister, Ella Taylor.The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:30 P.M. in the funeral home with Elder Reed Moore officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.
