Frank H. Smith, 97, of Ligonier, PA formerly of Blairsville, PA died on Monday, May 31, 2004 in the Bethlen Home, Ligonier, PAA son of Harry Frank and Sheba Jane Hoover Smith, he was born August 24, 1906 in Monongahela, PAMr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville; Brownsville Lodge #60, F&AM Coudersport Consistory; Pittsburgh Consistory; life member of Syria Shrine; he was past president of the Blairsville Travelers Club and the Pittsburgh Visitation Club; B.P.O.E. #406 Blairsville and the last surviving member of the Crescent Club, Monongahela, PA. He served as both a director and vice president of Blairsville National Bank for 40 years. Also a member of the Blairsville Rotary Club for over 50 years, where he served as president and was recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a member of the Blairsville Sewer Authority for 10 years. He was an honorary member of the American College of Apothecaries, member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and founder and first president of the Indiana County Pharmaceutical Association. He served on the executive board of the Pennsylvania Pharmaceutical Association in Harrisburg for 10 years. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1926 and taught two years in the pharmacy school from 1926 to 1928. Mr. Smith practiced pharmacy for 38 years in Blairsville at Smith's Pharmacy.Surviving are a son, Richard F. Smith and his wife, Betty and a daughter, Catherine S. Persio and her husband, Norman, all of Ligonier, PA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 69 years, Elda L. Merusi Smith on September 27, 2003; a sister, Maude S. Fitzpatrick and a grandson, Michael L. Persio.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville, PA with Rev. Dean E. Byrom officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.Masonic services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 P.M.
