Robert E. McMannus, Jr., 78, of Blairsville, PA died on Monday, February 16, 2004 in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.A son of Robert E. McMannus, Sr. and Mary A. Lemmon McMannus, he was born February 1, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA.Mr. McMannus was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, PA; also a member of the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 where he was Post Commander in 1989 and the Promise Keepers.He worked as a police officer for the Borough of Blairsville, retiring in 1988 and was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy.Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret "Peg" Snell McMannus whom he married on June 9, 1943; a son, Rev. John McMannus and his wife, Judy of Caracas, Venezuela; a daughter, Mary Lee Reihard and her husband, William of McClellandtown, PA; four grandchildren, Mary Fox, Joe McMannus, Missy Casper and Wendy Michaels; four great grandchildren, Hope Mallott, Summer Mallott, Michael Casper and Krystl Casper.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Bruce J. Theakston officiating.Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
