Edward William Ammon, 79, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) died on Monday, January 26, 2004 in the Latrobe Area Hospital, Latrobe, PA.A son of Philip H. and Dorothy M. Bridge Ammon, he was born February 24, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA.Mr. Ammon was a member of the SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA and the VFW Post #5821, Blairsville, PA. He enjoyed building homes and working in his garden.He graduated from Blairsville High School with the class of 1942 and had worked for Metals Conversion, Blairsville, PA until his retirement in 1989. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving in the 17th Armored Engineers Division receiving the Korean service medal with three bronze stars.Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dolores J. Borbonus Ammon whom he married on February 4, 1950; five sons, Michael A. Ammon of Ebensburg, PA; Joseph P. Ammon, Robert J. Ammon, Richard P. Ammon and William P. Ammon, all of Blairsville, PA and a daughter, Kathleen M. Kelly and her friend, Harry Cardellino of Blairsville, PA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Joyce Prentice, Daniel Barker, Michelle Barker, Joshua Ammon, Jacob Ammon and Alexiys Ammon; six great grandchildren; a brother, Maurice Ammon of Melbourne, FL; and two sisters, Corrine Kalchthaler of Penn Hills, PA and Josephine Mekic of Blairsville, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jean Reott and a sister, Evelyn Kwisnek.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 P.M. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A Wake service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in the SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Chester J. Raimer as celebrant.Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 555 Grant St., Suite 425, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
