Elmer Oscar McGinity, 83, of Blairsville, PA (Strangford) died on Sunday, January 11, 2004 in the Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe, PA.A son of Frank and Maude Donahue McGinity, he was born June 17, 1920 in Strangford, PA.Mr. McGinity lived his entire life in Strangford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden.He was a veteran of the US Army.Prior to his retirement in 1973, he was employed by Conrail for 32 years.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Erb McGinity to whom he married January 9, 1947; a son, Odis McGinity and his wife, Patricia of Latrobe, PA; six grandchildren, Chris McGinity and his wife, Debbie; Robert McGinity and his wife Theresa; David McGinity and his friend, Jodi; Alene Secrist; Alan Hainan and Aaron Hainan; four great grandchildren; a sister, Iva Hogan of Indiana, PA and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph, Clarence, Frank and William McGinity and six sisters, Mae Horrell, Sarah Lucas, Margaret Ellis, Evelyn McGinity, Mary Donaldson and Jane Benamati.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Jason L. McQueen officiating.Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion.
