Robert Emerson Shirley, 73, of Shelocta, PA formerly of Blairsville, PA died on Monday, November 10, 2003 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.A son of John and Nevada Marsh Shirley, he was born June 5, 1930 in Luciusboro, PA.Mr. Shirley attended the First Assembly of God Church, Blairsville, PA and was a member of Acacia Lodge #355 F & AM, Blairsville, PA, Coudersport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, PA and the Indiana County Shrine Club.Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Friel Mining Co.Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sarah P. Lichtenfels Shirley to whom he married December 17, 1949; five sons, Ronald Shirley and his wife, Alice, VanLeer, Tennessee; Donnie Shirley and his wife, Carol, Blairsville, PA; Richard Shirley and his wife, Kathleen, Blairsville, PA; Patrick Shirley and his wife, Carla, Blairsville, PA and Timothy Shirley and his wife, Brenda, Indiana, PA; two daughters, Bonnie Newson and her husband, Eugene, Creekside, PA and Nancy Platt and her husband, Edward Jr., Blairsville, PA; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Jacob Buterbaugh; five brothers, Stanley Shirley, Indiana, PA; Arthur Shirley and his wife, Mildred, Homer City, PA; Donald Shirley, Homer City, PA; Leonard Shirley and his wife, Helen, Blairsville, PA; Ted Shirley and his wife, Rose, New Florence, PA; four sisters, Letty Miller and her husband, Jim, Blairsville, PA; Twila Dunmire and her husband, Leonard, Blairsville, PA; Velma Muir and her husband, Lefty, Clymer, PA and Janet Ritchey and her husband, Bill, Grove City, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Houle; two brothers, Eugene and Ken Shirley and a granddaughter, Robin Young.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Charles Kitner officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, West Wheatfield Twp., PA.Masonic services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M.
