Amelia "Amy" R. Henigin

January 26, 1934 — May 19, 2024

Amelia "Amy" R. (Zona) Henigin, 90, of Mount Pleasant, SC, formerly of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The daughter of Alexander and Emma (Balough) Zona, she was born on January 26, 1934.

Amy was a very kind and loving person who always put others before herself. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family members. Amy is survived by her only daughter Kathy, two grandchildren, Aubree and Bryan, two stepchildren, Jen and Bill, three great-grandchildren, Logan, Natalie, and Drew, and her younger sister, Elizabeth. She had many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews who affectionately called her Aunt Amy.

Amy was preceded in death by her husband George of 64 years, on February 2, 2020, her parents, son-in-law, Brian, four sisters, Emma, Mary, Louise, and Cecelia, and three brothers, Alex, Joe, and John.

Amy graduated from Elders Ridge High School, Class of 1952. She and her husband George were longtime members of the SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church in Blairsville. Amy not only belonged to The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Theresa #562 where she held many offices, sang in the chorus every week, and worked with the “Angels of Compassion”. In her leisure time, Amy enjoyed painting and participating in craft fairs with her sister, Cecelia. She later became known as the "Bingo Queen" after moving to Virginia to be closer to her daughter.

Amy cherished spending time with her family and friends, always reminding them that "Every day is a gift."

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 6-8 PM where a Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM followed by a Rosary at 7:45 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at the SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, with Rev. Segundino Laude celebrant.

Interment will be in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, 155 N. Brady St., Blairsville, PA 15717.
