Austin P. Anderson, Jr.

Austin P. Anderson, Jr., 88, of Indiana, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana.

The son of the late Austin P. and Mary (Longwill) Anderson, Sr., he was born on September 17, 1931, in Indiana.

Austin graduated from Indiana High School in 1949, after which he attended Bucknell University, graduating in 1953 with a degree in Commerce and Finance.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, graduating from Officers Candidate School in September of 1953, after which he served as gunnery officer aboard the USS Missouri until December of 1954.

After his time in the service, Austin returned to Indiana and ran Anderson’s Shoe Store from September of 1956 to December 1990.

Austin was an elder and a deacon at Calvary Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Indiana Kiwanis Club, the Indiana Ballroom Dance Club, Silver Sneakers, Indiana Lodge 313 F & AM, AARP #2581, UCT #598, and the Sleepy Hollow Club for many years.  He also served with the Indiana Parking Authority.

He enjoyed carpentry, having worked with his uncle as a house builder, and continued his passion by crafting most of the family’s furnishings.  He also enjoyed working on and repairing mechanical clocks which he kept throughout the store and the family’s home.

Austin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna Lee (Orr) Anderson; three children: Christopher D. Anderson (Wendy) of Monroeville, PA, David P. Anderson (Debbie) of Glendale, AZ, and Steven H. Anderson (Karen) of Walkersville, MD; six grandchildren: Christy J. Wells , William P. Anderson, Robert D. Anderson, Jonathan H. Anderson, Timothy J. Anderson, and Thomas A. Anderson; and four great-grandchildren:  Ava Mae Wells, Emma Jane Wells, Austin David Wells, and Calle Ray Anderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Dale Anderson and his sister Cauleen A. McAllester.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

All services are being handled by Robinson-Lytle Funeral Home, Indiana.
