Carl Wendel Thompson, Sr.

Carl Wendel Thompson, Sr., 81, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) died on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The son of Carson W. and Anna M. (Compton) Thompson, he was born May 14, 1943, in Black Lick, PA.

Carl was a graduate of Blairsville High School, Class of 1961.

He worked in the coal mines until his retirement and was a member of the UMWA.

Carl spent his time in the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and coon hunting.

Surviving is his wife, Shirley L. (Hazlett) Thompson; four children, Carl W. Thompson, Jr. of Torrance, Tammy Thompson of Nevada, Becky O’Neil of Blairsville, and Chris Thompson (Dawn) of Torrance; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill Thompson.

Per Carl’s wishes there is no visitation or funeral service.
