Catherine Louise Nichols

Catherine L. Nichols, 98, of Indiana passed away June 13, 2020.

Catherine, a lifelong resident of Indiana, PA, was born on August 28, 1921, to Blair Sutton and Lottie Thomas Lewis.  She was preceded in death by all 11 of her brothers and sisters.  Catherine is survived by her son, Paul Eugene Ferrier and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Rochester Mills, PA.; her daughter, Hazel Getty and husband, James, of Cape Carteret, NC; and her honorary daughter Sandy Jeffries of Marion Center, PA.  She is also survived by grandchildren Ronda, Ronald, Jr., Michael, Tyler, Laura, Anne, Dawn, Erich, and Jason; great-grandchildren Madison, Tiffany, Justin,  Jarrett; Olivia, Catheryn (Catherine’s namesake), Audrey, Devin, Luke, and Eden;  great, great grandchildren Paul, Owen, and Bryson; many, close, beloved nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.  Catherine loved all of her family, and they loved her. As the matriarch over many decades, she never stopped mothering, coaching, prodding, teaching and above all, loving.

There is no denying that you saw Catherine’s zest for life in all that she had and all that she did. Her modest home was filled with pictures, mementos from a life well lived, and CDs (she loved music).  For most of her 98 years, she was in constant motion and highly independent. Catherine was an active member of the One Hope Church for more than 55 years.  She enjoyed gardening, baking, bowling, playing bingo, square dancing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.  Catherine was an active member of the Elks and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries, a member of the Pennsylvania State Grange, and she was a Past Madam President of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She showed us the importance of enjoying the moment, creating experiences, and honoring family & friends. Please continue to honor her by loving graciously, living earnestly and forgiving easily.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N. 7 ^th St., as well as from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 which will also be held at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
