Dr. Royce E. Walters

Dr. Royce E. Walters, 85, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Bethany Place in Indiana.

A son of the late H. Wilson and Grace V. (Kern) Walters, he was born Dec. 19, 1937, in York.

He is survived by a son, Todd R. Walters; a brother, Dennis C. Walters and wife Constance; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Ruth Shirey-Walters in 2015.

Dr. Walters was Professor Emeritus in the Department of History at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and taught for over 32 years. He was passionate about teaching and was still in contact with many former students. He loved to travel and made friends all over the world.

As well as being active in the community and a member of many antique organizations, he was also a proud supporter of the Philadelphia Museum of Art for over 50 years and visited the museum often. Organizations he was involved with included Lowell Innes Chapter of National American Glass Club, The Historical Glass Club of Pittsburgh, The Rushlight Club, Rainbow Diamond Glass Club, and the Indiana County Historical Society. He did much research, wrote papers, and made presentations for many of these groups. He was always willing to share his wealth of antique and historical knowledge with t others.

Dr. Walters offered a course on “Topics In Antiques” for several years through IUP Continuing Education. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Carol Teti Memorial Organ Scholarship Committee at IUP.

There is no visitation. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home36, N 7th Street, Indiana, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
