Esther Mae Campbell

Esther Mae Campbell, 95, of Blairsville, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019 in Country Living Personal Care Home, Blairsville.

The daughter of Elmer A. and Lillian (Vatter) Campbell, she was born December 23, 1923 in Indiana, PA.

Esther worked at Torrance State Hospital as a social worker until her retirement in 1983.

She was a graduate of Blairsville High School, class of 1940. She then received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1944 from the Indiana State Teachers College (IUP). She proudly served in the United States Navy.

Esther was a very active member in the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville. She loved to play golf, bowl, and enjoyed travelling.

She is survived by nephews, Harry Seymour (Susan) of Conneaut, David Seymour (Jeannie) of Portland, OR, Daniel Gehr (Pam) of Big Pool, MD; a niece, Jennifer Spong (Grant) Cairns, Australia.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Ethel Seymour and Sara Katherine “Kay” Gehr,

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M.  to 1: 00 P.M. on Wednesday in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.  A funeral service will be held at1:00 P.M. Wednesday in the United Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.

Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Esther’s memory may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Blairsville, 137 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA 15717.
