Gary L Wilkins

Gary Lee Wilkins, 69, of Homer City, PA, died on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, in Independence Health System, Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The son of William E. and Alice (Goodlin) Wilkins, he was born August 21, 1954, in Latrobe, PA.

Gary was a graduate of Blairsville High School, Class of 1972 and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in safety science.

He worked for Lucerne #9 and Marshall Run Mines.

Gary was a member of the First Methodist Church, Blairsville, Indiana Moose Lodge # 174, Red Barn Sportsmen’s Club, Homer City American Legion Post 493, UMWA and Rainbow Diamond Glass Club.

He loved golfing with his friends at Chestnut Ridge and the former Indiana VFW course, spending time and traveling with his family, and cooking for his family and friends.  His grandchildren brought him great pride and joy.  He had a quick wit and an infectious laugh that brightened everyone’s day.  Gary was an avid fan of local high school sports, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Jane A. (Peterman) Wilkins whom he married on November 3, 1978; two daughters, Melanie A. Thomas (Bryon) of Blairsville, and Michelle L. Wilkins of Homer City; two grandchildren, Logan T. Thomas and Everly Neal; a sister, Sherry M. Csanyi (Denny) of Blairsville; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 1 PM until the time of the funeral service at 3PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville with Pastor Dawn Krishart officiating.
