Janet E. Luther

Janet E. (Shaffer) Luther, 87, of New Florence, PA passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, PA.

The daughter of Charles and Mary (Baumgardner) Shaffer, she was born October 4, 1932 in Paint Twp., Somerset Co., PA.

Janet was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, she was a member and Past Matron of the former Blairsville Chapter #166 O.E.S in 1978 and 2001, now Latrobe Chapter #221, O.E.S.  She served as District Deputy Grand Matron, District 7, from 1992-1993. Janet was also a member of the Red Hat Society and many Antique Car Clubs.

She worked as a secretary for United School District, R & P Coal Company and Florence Mining Company.

Janet and her husband, Herman loved being “snowbirds” in Florida for many years.  Her life was a life well lived, well loved, and someone that will be deeply missed.

Surviving is her loving husband of 65 years, Herman Luther whom she married October 4, 1954; Janice E. Miller and husband, Rick of Homer City, two grandchildren, Aaron Miller and Nadine Miller and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Cliff and Richard Shaffer and a sister, Judy Shaffer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday (January 1, 2020) in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Blair officiating.

Interment will be in Armagh Cemetery, Armagh, PA.

Eastern Star services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 P.M.
