Mary Lou (Chappell) Shaffer, 83, of Indiana, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A daughter of the late Clarence H. and Nellie (Barni) Chappell, she was born April 11, 1941, in Chambersville, Indiana County.
Mary Lou worked in the hospitality industry, where she was a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking. Mary Lou was always one to welcome family and friends into her home.
She is survived by three children: James R. Shaffer, Jr. and wife Robin, of Shelocta; Mark A. Shaffer and wife Donna, of Alledonia, OH; Kelly Shirley and husband Ronald, of Creekside; a son-in-law, Wayne Coursey; seven grandchildren: Holly Buterbaugh, CJ Buterbaugh, Amber Pinkerton and husband Eric, Ronald Shirley, Jr. and wife Maranda, Mark Shaffer, Jr. and wife Alicia, Kristen Phillips and husband Matthew and Steven Shirley; seven great-grandchildren: Kylee, Gavin, Gracie, Natylee, Sophia, Maryann and Savannah; six siblings: Annie Ryan, Denny Chappell and wife Janet, Diane Haws, Nancy Hitchcock and husband Nelson, Doris Stadtmiller and husband Robert, Donna Zometsky; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Shaffer, Sr.; two children: Steven Shaffer and Tammy Coursey; eight siblings: Virginia Skerbetz, Tommy Pecco, Pauline Labant, Paul Landi, George Landi, Clarence Chappell, Bill Chappell and David Chappell.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025 at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, with Pastor Paul Wallace, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
