Oliver A. Cunkelman

October 4, 1929 — April 3, 2020

Oliver A. “Whitey” Cunkelman, 90, of Homer City, PA passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

The son of John G. and Bertha A. (Taylor) Cunkelman, he was born October 4, 1929 in Black Lick Twp., Indiana Co., PA.

Oliver lived his entire life in Black Lick Twp. and graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1946.  He worked for many years in the profession he loved.  He owned and operated Cunkelman Trucking from 1950-1961, owned and operated Whitey’s Lunch Stand from 1956-1962, worked at McGill Motors from 1962-1981 as a heavy-duty truck salesman and owned and operated Truck Parts Unlimited for 31 years, retiring in 2013.

He was a member of Jacksonville United Presbyterian Church where he was a ruling elder.  Other memberships were, Acacia Lodge #355 FA&M, Coudersport Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Westmoreland Forest #77, Altoona Jaffa Shrine, Indiana County Shrine Club, Blairsville Sportsmen’s Club, National Rifle Association and the Fort Hand Rifle Club.

Oliver enjoyed reading and was an avid racing fan.  He traveled to several states and Africa to hunt with his family and friends.

Surviving are four children, Donna Rich of Stuart, FL; David O. Cunkelman (Teresa) of Murrysville; Debora Stupic (Raymond) of Penn Run and Darrell Cunkelman (Kimberlee) of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Meghan Hodde (Hank), Ty Hoza (Heather), Lauren Cunkelman (Ben), John Stupic (Laura) and Clayton Oliver Stupic; three great grandchildren, Knox Hoza, Izzy Hoza, Hutchinson Hodde and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Susan I. (Dunlap) Cunkelman, the love of his life, on July 4, 2019 after 68 years of marriage, son-in-law, Craig Rich, nine brothers, William, George, John, Ralph, Walter, Willis, Earl, Paul and David, three sisters, Ruth Fink, Sarah Weatherford and Bertha McConnaughey.

A special thank you to his house keeper, Mary and his caregivers, Angie, Cinda, Kim, Savanah and Shani.  They enabled Oliver to continue to live at home where he resided for 63 years.

Due to the health concerns of COVID-19, services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Jacksonville United Presbyterian Church or the Shriners Hospital for Children, in memory of Oliver A. Cunkelman.
